Corsican Mayor killed in gun attack
The Mayor of Santa Andrea di Cotonu, Dominique Domarhci has been killed in a gun attack outside his home in northern Corsica.
Domarchi, who is a close friend of the President of the Corsican Territorial Community (PCTA) Paul Giacobbi was blasted at close range as he returned home from the Town Hall, where counting is underway following Saturday's local council elections. It is believed that Domarchi was ambushed by a number of gunmen in his driveway at around 1.20am on Monday morning. He was shot a number of times with various different weapons according to police.
Domanchi had been mayor of the small northern Corsican town, with a population of around 250 people, for twenty-seven years. He was a close adviser to Paul Giacobbi, the PCTA of Corsica.
Local police said they are still trying to establish a motive and claimed it was too early to speculate whether this was a political assassination. A post mortem will be carried out on his body on Tuesday.
