Militant and soldier killed in Kashmir clash



A Kashmiri militant has been killed in the town of Sopore, in Indian administered Kashimr, the military has claimed.

It is understood that a joint patrol of police and military forces engaged a group of militants in a gun battle in the Noorbagh area of the town. During the gunfight a member of the Indian territorial army was seriously wounded. He died a few hours later in hospital.

It is believed that the Hizbul Mujahideen rebel group was involved in the attack. The Indian Military has claimed that the group was responsible for the kidnap of two teachers during the week, both of whom later escaped.

The dead soldier has been named as Manzoor Ahmed Mali. The dead rebel has yet to be identified.
